Best Twilio Lookup alternatives
We make one of these, so we are first on our own list — that is the bias, stated up front. Everything below is argued from what each company is, never from what it charges, because a ranking built on prices is one repricing away from being wrong about somebody else’s business.
Twilio Lookup is a phone number intelligence API. Phone number validation and line-type data from Twilio, sitting alongside the messaging and voice products most teams already have an account for. For anything current about their plans, read their own pricing page — we never quote it, because it changes and we would not notice.
About Twilio Lookup’s side of this page: we describe what kind of product it is, and where we state a fact about it we quote their own public page, link to it, and show the date we read it — and we never quote their prices, which change without notice. Where their pages do not say, we say that rather than guess. Anything current comes from them: Twilio Lookup’s own pricing page. Product names and trademarks belong to their owners; LayerCall is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with Twilio Lookup.
LayerCall
5 identifier types — ip, email, phone, domain, device — scored in one call, with a 0–100 score, an allow/review/block verdict and every signal behind it. One key, one response shape, and the relationships between the values rather than each value in isolation.
The claims we make about ourselves are checkable: the false-positive figures are published with their sample size, the corpus is in the repository, and both SDKs fail open so an outage on our side does not become one on yours.
Where we are the wrong answer: if you need one check and expect to keep needing one check, a single-purpose API is simpler. If you want the lookup on your own machines, an API cannot help you at all.
1Lookup
Multi-signal validation APIPhone, email and IP validation plus contact enrichment on a single API key and a shared credit balance, aimed at teams who want several data products without several vendors.
Better than us when: You want enrichment as well as validation — contact and company data alongside the checks. That is a broader catalogue than ours and a genuine reason to pick them.
Abstract API
Single-purpose API catalogueA catalogue of small, single-purpose APIs — IP geolocation, email validation, phone validation and others — each clean and documented on its own terms.
Better than us when: You need exactly one check and expect to keep needing exactly one. A single-purpose API you can read end to end in an afternoon is a real advantage over a combined score you have to learn.
IPinfo
IP data providerIP data done thoroughly — geolocation, ASN, carrier and privacy detection — from a company whose entire product is the IP address.
Better than us when: The IP is the whole question and you want the best available answer to it, with public data lineage. If you never need to ask about an email, a phone or a device, a specialist beats a generalist.
IPQualityScore
Fraud prevention suiteA broad fraud-prevention platform: IP reputation, email and phone validation, device fingerprinting and a rules engine, sold as one suite to fraud teams.
Better than us when: You have a fraud team and want a platform rather than an API — dashboards, case review, and a vendor relationship with people who will sit on a call with you. That is a different kind of purchase from a key and an endpoint.
Ipregistry
IP geolocation and threat data APIAn IP geolocation and threat-data API sold as one lookup returning location, network, carrier and currency alongside proxy, Tor and abuser flags — used as much for personalisation and ad targeting as for fraud.
Better than us when: You want one IP call that answers geography, network AND risk together, and geography is doing real work in your product — localising content, choosing a currency, targeting. Our geo block exists to explain a score, not to be the product, and if location is the thing you are buying then a provider whose whole surface is built around it will serve you better.
MaxMind
IP geolocation providerThe long-established IP geolocation provider, offered both as a hosted lookup and as databases you download and query inside your own infrastructure.
Better than us when: You want the lookup to happen on your own machines. A downloadable database has no per-request latency, no third party in the request path, and no dependency on our uptime — none of which an API can offer.
NeverBounce
Email verification serviceBulk email list cleaning and real-time verification, built around getting a mailing list into a state a sender can safely use.
Better than us when: You have a list to clean rather than a signup to judge. Bulk list processing is a different problem from scoring one address at the moment somebody types it.
Predax
IP threat intelligence APIA real-time IP intelligence API — VPN, proxy, Tor and datacenter detection with a risk score — packaged with a web application firewall and drop-in WordPress and WooCommerce plugins.
Better than us when: The site you are protecting is WordPress or WooCommerce, and you want a plugin rather than an integration. Installing something from the plugin directory and being done is a genuinely different purchase from wiring an API into a signup flow, and we do not offer it. Their firewall sits in front of the request too, which is a job we do not do at all — we answer a question, we do not block traffic for you.
SEON
Fraud prevention and AML platformA fraud-prevention platform built around digital-footprint enrichment — taking an email or phone and reporting where it appears online — combined with device intelligence, a rules engine, case management and AML compliance, sold with an implementation team.
Better than us when: You need the social-footprint lookup itself, or you need AML compliance and case management in the same product. Their enrichment queries consumer sites directly to see where an address is registered; ours deliberately stops at public and licensed sources, so on that specific signal they return more than we do and we are not pretending otherwise. Theirs is also a sales-led platform purchase with people assigned to your integration, which is a different thing to buy than a key and an endpoint.
ShieldLabs
Visitor identification serviceVisitor identification aimed at unmasking traffic behind VPNs, proxies and anti-detect browsers, reporting device and network intelligence with a risk score.
Better than us when: The problem is specifically multi-accounting and bonus abuse, where the question is whether two sessions are the same person behind different masks. That is an identity-resolution job, and a product built around it will go further on anti-detect browsers than a scorer that answers one signup at a time.
ZeroBounce
Email deliverability platformEmail deliverability first: list validation, inbox placement testing and blacklist monitoring, aimed at people responsible for whether a campaign lands.
Better than us when: The job is protecting a sending reputation rather than judging a signup. Inbox placement and blacklist monitoring are real deliverability work that we do not do at all.
Still deciding? The free tier is 1,000 lookups a month with no card and no daily cap, which is enough to run every alternative on this page against the same traffic and compare the answers rather than the marketing.
