Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last updated: 26 July 2026

This policy explains how cancelling works, when we refund, and what to do if a charge looks wrong. It applies to all paid LayerCall plans. Nothing here removes rights you have under the consumer law of your own country.

Try it before you pay

Every account starts on the free plan: 1,000 lookups a month, no card required, with access to every endpoint. Test keys are never billed and never expire. You can run LayerCall against your real traffic and see exactly what it returns before spending anything.

That is deliberate, and it is why the policy below is simple: nobody should ever reach a paid month without already knowing what the API does for them.

All plans are monthly, and monthly is non-refundable

Every plan is billed monthly, in advance. We do not sell annual plans.

Payments are not refundable. Each month's included lookups become available the moment it is charged. If LayerCall turns out not to suit you, cancel and you are charged nothing further — the most you are ever exposed to is a single month.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time from Billing — choose Manage billing. Cancelling stops all future charges and your plan stays fully active until the end of the month you have already paid for. You are never cut off mid-period.

After that the account returns to the free tier. Your API keys keep working at free-tier limits, so nothing breaks silently in production.

An unused subscription still bills

A subscription runs until it is cancelled. Not signing in, or sending no requests, does not cancel it and does not by itself entitle you to a refund for months already charged. This is the standard subscription model, and it is part of how we keep prices flat.

If something genuinely stopped you cancelling — you lost access to the account, a card was charged after you believed you had cancelled, or you could not find where to do it — open a ticket and we will look at it properly. We would far rather resolve it with you directly than have it become a bank dispute.

Changing plan

Moving between plans is prorated. Upgrade part-way through a month and the unused portion of your current plan is credited against the new one, so you pay only the difference. Downgrades work the same way, with the credit reducing your next charge rather than being refunded to your card.

Usage and overage charges

Charges for lookups beyond your plan's included allowance are not refundable: those requests were served and the data delivered. If you believe you were billed for lookups you did not make, raise a ticket and we will check the usage log against your account.

To make surprise overage impossible, set a spend cap in your billing settings. Once your projected bill reaches the cap we pause billable lookups rather than charging past it. Your current month's spend is shown on the same page.

What we always refund

  • Duplicate charges, or the same plan charged twice in one month.
  • Charges taken after you cancelled, or on an account you did not authorise.
  • Any period in which the API was materially unavailable through a fault on our side — refunded or credited pro rata.
  • A charge made in error by us, whatever the cause.

Free plan

The free plan costs nothing and needs no card, so there is nothing to refund. Test-mode lookups are never billed on any plan.

How to reach us about a charge

Open a ticket from the email address on the account and choose Billing & payments as the subject. We reply within 2 business days. Where a refund is due it goes back to the original payment method and usually appears within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.

LayerCall subscriptions are sold through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record. Refunds are processed by them, so the credit on your statement may appear under their name rather than ours.

Chargebacks

Please talk to us before opening a dispute with your bank. Nearly every billing question we get is resolved the same week; a chargeback takes months and suspends the account while it is open.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The version that applies to a charge is the one published when that charge was made. Related terms are in our Terms of Service.
